A beautiful bitch, Hannah has great substance and bone. She is out of a gorgeous Icelandic import bitch Fjalla Frigg and by Viking's Sigurd who is himself out of two Icelandic import parents. She is a classic "Iceland" dog in type. Hannah has great mass and is very broad through the wither, back, loin and hip. Odinn compliments this well as he has normal width throughout. Hannah has great balance from the shoulder to the ground. Odinn is a little longer than tall at the shoulder. Hannah offers a nice corrective compliment to Odinns overall balance.
Pat Hastings, an AKC judge and confirmation expert met and evaluated Hannah at one of her structure and movement seminars. Hannah was one of two dogs owner Kathy Engstrom brought to the gathering. These two dogs were the first Icelandic Sheepdogs Pat ever saw or evaluated personally. Both were compared to the FCI standard. Mrs. Hastings commented that Hannah had great nordic type and structure. She considered her to be a well balanced and structurally sound dog.
Hannah offers the breed many things. She has great structure which is reflected in her ease of movement. She demonstrates both excellent reach and drive in a fluid gait. Her coat is exceptional in its density, medium length and proper texture. Her coloring is unusual and I believe it to be the result of black ticking thoughout. This "mantled" effect appears to be somewhat dominant but I am hoping Odinn, who is very clean, may help to clean up the coloring. Given the quality of the coat, the color is truely a secondary concern.
It is interesting to note that Hannah was born with a black mask extending up to the eyebrow line. With age, this mask has turned white giving her a very beautiful and unusual appearance. It will be interesting to see if the pups a born with the extensive black mask.
