Kersin's Midas Touch
Midas arrived in August of 2005 at the age of 8 weeks. The largest of his litter, he had been given the name "Hulk" and Helga Gustafsdottir was gracious enough to register him as Midas Touch. Thank you Helga for allowing me to break tradition!  He was a rough and tumble guy with great energy and enthusiasm right from the start.  His siblings have done exceedingly well in the Icelandic show ring. We are very honored to have him as he also possesses some of my favorite Icelandic lines belonging to Sunnusteins Kennels.

Seasons of Change
Midas was not to grow out in a pretty fashion. In fact, he spent months looking quit goofy with his large ears, large seal brown eyes and big bony legs.  Oh yes he had me worried. I was used to Odinn who always looks finished and never had  a "teen ugly" day in his life!  Midas grew rapidly and by 1 year he had surpassed Odinn in height by nearly an inch!  Their weights were even at 38 lbs but Midas was still growing. Slowly he began to "come together," first in the head and neck and then throughout but his coat remained a disaster with the reverse mohawk you can see in the photo to the right.  Then one day, I saw him studying the cattle next door with his head up and neck thrown back and I thought WOW he really is coming together.  He was just passed 9 months of age at that time.

The transformation continues and we watch with great  anticipation.  Midas develops the proper guardhair and has an abundance of undercoat.  The mohawk is gone and his angles start to stand out. He is MOVING like a dream and he LOVES it. A ever active youngster, Midas is the most giving of our ISD's if not the sharpest. He is also exceedingly agile and will be working with both confirmation and agility classes in the fall.  He is a happy wild child who can play with an intensity yet seen in my other dogs. Now we learn he is also exceptional with puppies!  An all round good dog, he loves to run and BARK while in motion. In the house, or on lead, he is  quiet and reserved. But he does enjoy a good bark-fest with his pals.

Movement
Midas has been developing beautiful reach and drive without formal training.  His front assembly is very nice with exception to a slightly straight shoulder.  He is nicely angulated and very athletic.
Midas at 14 months. He was at the Gridley California Meet the Breed when this photo was taken. We anxioously anticipate his Penn Hip studies as we would like to breed him soon.  He has much to offer the breed.  Finally past the "uglies" he now demonstrates quite the show and breeder potential.  He will be evaluated by Pat Hastings along with the pups and their parent on September 1, 2006.  Given his age, he looks very promising!
Midas meets Pat Hastings!  Pat liked Midas very, very much saying he had excellent structure and type. He scored 3.5 and 4's on his evaluation with 4 being highest possible. Pat made it clear that this was a dog to consider even if his hips weren't prestine. With PennHip at .54 and .57, that is not a concern. We may do OFA if he needs to be sedated for other reasons.
